鈥淢y work currently deals with embodied emotional and corporeal tension, and takes the form of painting, fiber sculpture, and performance. I am interested in the intimate interactions and relationships between fabric and body, body and memory, memory and fabric.鈥
Anabel Gomez
鈥淭he experiences I have had as a low-income Chicana in repressive, exclusionary, and elite environments have informed the way I approach and create my artwork. My current work revolves around my exploration of my positionality as a daughter of a Mexican immigrant.鈥
Devon Horn
鈥淢y work highlights environmental issues surrounding my South Florida hometown, which is at risk of sinking into the sea due to rising ocean levels.鈥
Jessica Wang
鈥淐urrently, I am interested in physical and psychological transition. I try to translate the changing nature of the present into my work in oil paint.鈥
Exhibition II
The second exhibition is titled MAKING YOU and it will feature works by Sonia Grunwald, Clark Hollenberg, and Kirsten Tingle. These artists work in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, installation, and performance. There will be works installed inside Rooms 123, 124 and 219 in Studio Art Hall.
Please join us for the opening reception on Monday, April 10th, from 12-2pm or for our evening reception on Thursday, April 13, from 7-9pm.
"My work is focused on broken pieces and how pieces come together to make a whole. Brokenness vs. unity vs. completion, especially with respect to the body and self is a general theme that runs through much of my work. I also like to explore a variety of media ranging from painting and drawing to sculpture and ceramics, continuing this theme throughout various worlds of art."
Sonia Grunwald
鈥"Dissolving boundaries between the abstract and the real, the discrete and the continuous, the self and the other, my work is an exploration of the fundamental fabric of the universe."
Clark Hollenberg
"Working from photos of myself I explore the space I inhabit. The molding tea leaves in my tea pot, the couch I lie out upon, and the tea cups I drink from. How does my body exist and change in the space I have created?"
Kirsten Tingle
