The Inaugural Institute for Inclusive Excellence Symposium Speaker Spring 2023

Professor , Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation Chair in Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at UCLA School of Law, visited the Claremont Community to give an evening talk as the inaugural Institute for Inclusive Excellence Symposium speaker. Dr. Harris discussed how equity and inclusion efforts under United States law have historically both aided and impeded the creation of a more just society.

Dr. Harris gave a historical legal framework that takes us from Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter and leads us to our current political state mired in anti-intellectualism, book bannings, erasure of history, and denial of civil rights. Her featured talk inspired us, our students in particular, to meet the current and future challenges of equity and inclusion in our pluralistic society.
