As the Spring 2024 semester comes to a close, we are pleased to share valuable insights from our Sakai to Canvas Transition Survey, which received feedback from 79 faculty members. We thank each participant for their crucial input as we navigate this important transition.
Survey Insights and Training Initiatives:
The survey revealed that the majority of respondents (71%) are still primarily using Sakai and have not transitioned to Canvas. In contrast, 10% have fully moved to using Canvas, with another 10% utilizing both platforms. Notably, 9% of respondents are not using either LMS. The primary challenge faced by our faculty is the recreation of Sakai course sites in Canvas. Regarding training preferences, there is a clear favor for summer sessions, particularly in May, with intensive group training, self-paced online courses, and personalized assistance being the preferred methods. To effectively address these challenges and preferences, we are excited to launch a comprehensive support framework. This includes the establishment of a dedicated on our website, which serves as a central resource hub. Here, faculty can access various support materials such as self-paced courses, detailed knowledge base articles, tutorial videos, and FAQs about the transition.
New Training and Support Initiatives:
Further supporting our faculty, ITS and the Dean's office have allocated funds from the Hahn Teaching with Technology Grant to introduce an intensive training program this summer. Eligible faculty can receive a $600 grant to participate in hands-on workshops designed to facilitate the transition. Workshops are available in both in-person and virtual formats across several dates in May, June, and July. Each session is limited to 12 participants to ensure a focused and personalized learning experience. Additional drop-in sessions and year-round one-on-one consultations are also available to accommodate various needs and schedules.
Stay Informed and Engaged:
We encourage all faculty to visit the to explore the resources available and register for the upcoming training sessions that best suit their needs. Together, we can make this transition smooth and successful for everyone involved.
Your engagement and feedback are invaluable to us as we strive to provide the best possible support during this transition period. Thank you for your continued cooperation and commitment to excellence in teaching and learning at 6VµçÓ°Íø.
