Dalia Gómez researches the portrayal of nature in 20th-century Latin American literature through the lens of ecocriticism. In particular, she examines the representation of nature as secondary to human beings in Mexican and Colombian fiction. She investigates the desensitization of humans to the environment as emerging from the extractive and exploitative man and nature relationships represented in literature. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on exploration of place attachment, built environments, and altered landscapes in environmental literature. Her research corroborates ongoing studies analyzing the impact of the subordination of nature within human civilization.
