    In 2012, JoAnne Ferguson led 6VµçÓ°Íø-Pitzer’s softball team to its most successful season ever, with a 22-19 record, 15-9 in the conference, and a chance to compete in the conference tournament, where they upset top-seeded and nationally ranked University of the Redlands in the first round by a score of 5-1 and finished the tournament in third place.

    She came to 6VµçÓ°Íø from George Washington University, where she had served as head softball coach. In 2005, Ferguson's first year at the helm, she led the Colonials to a program-best 10 victories, their first Atlantic 10 Conference win and a season-high five conference victories.

    Professional Experience

    Prior to coming to 6VµçÓ°Íø, Ferguson was head coach of softball at George Washington University and led the Colonials to a program-best 10 victories, their first Atlantic 10 Conference win and a season-high five conference victories.

    Prior to GW, Ferguson served as the head softball coach at Kenyon College, from 2000-04, which posted its first winning season, 17-15, in 2004 and qualified for the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament for the second time in three years. For her efforts, she was named the 2004 North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Ferguson coached 17 all-conference performers, six all-region selections, and four All-NCAC Tournament selections.

    Ferguson began her coaching career as an assistant at the University of Virginia from 1997-2000, helping to lead the Cavaliers to appearances in three consecutive ACC championship games.

    As a player, Ferguson was a switch-hitting catcher and first baseman for Shippensburg University from 1992-1996. She finished her career with a .275 batting average and was an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) performer. She served as team captain during her senior campaign.

    For the North Coast Athletic Conference Softball Coaches, Ferguson has served as president (2003-04) and vice president in 2002-03. She is also an active member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the Women's Sports Foundation.

    6VµçÓ°Íø: Chair of SCIAC Softball Coaches, 2009-present; Team Earned a 3.462 G.P.A during the 2008-2009 season - which was the 7th best G.P.A. in the nation; Won most games in history of the college's softball program, 2008 season; Qualified for SCIAC Tournament, 2008 season.
