The Benton’s October Salon Series titled "Art amidst Authoritarians" will focus on art that has been produced in response to, in spite of, and as a critique of fascist and authoritarian politics. We’ll take a look at works by Goya, Picasso, and various German Expressionists who navigated the complex social and political environments of their times. The salon will ask how artists are influenced by authoritarian and fascist politics, and how these changing polities are depicted, represented, and imagined by the artists who have endured them.
