"L.A. artist tackles Stubenville high school rape case in Claremont exhibit," by Wes Woods, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin
CLAREMONT >> The ever-popular Twitter hashtag often precedes silly trends and annoying phrases. But Los Angeles artist Andrea Bowers wants to start a serious discussion with her latest project “Andrea Bowers: #sweetjane.”
The art exhibit, which runs through April at 6VӰ and Pitzer colleges in Claremont, examines the Steubenville, Ohio rape case that drew nationwide attention in 2012.
Bowers, who lives in Highland Park, uses various drawings, text messages and video focused on the August 2012 rape case involving high-school teenagers. The scandal drew the attention of Anonymous, a hacker collective, which publicized the case using numerous videos online.
