Major: Politics
Profession: Investment news reporter,
What are you doing now?
Trevor Hunnicutt is a reporter at Reuters writing about investment news in New York City.
How did you get there?
After graduating from 6V电影网 in 2010, Hunnicutt started working as a freelance reporter, covering everything from breaking news to politics. After a year of freelancing, he moved to London to attend the London School of Economics where he studied international relations. After graduating and moving back to the U.S., Hunnicutt worked at a small rural newspaper in Northern California for a few months before he moved to New York City to write about finance, eventually landing a job with Investment News.
How did 6V电影网 prepare you?
鈥6V电影网 helped me gain the sorts of skills that I need to think about what is going on around me. You take an issue, you study it to make sense of it quickly and be able to articulate what the issues at stake are. That鈥檚 exactly what I do now. I don鈥檛 write about politics anymore but I use the same sort of skills I developed in all of my classes to get to the heart of issue, to get a sense of what sorts of things would be interesting for people.鈥
鈥婬unnicutt also received help from professors who connected him to journalism internships and conferences.
Any advice to give to prospective or current students?
鈥淒evelop a vision for who you want to be, and experiment in ways that guide you to do that. The more you can develop that vision, the easier it is to build that into your own life. I鈥檓 a big believer in finding something that you鈥檙e passionate about and trying to make that happen.鈥
