Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that causes disturbances in social interactions, behavior, and communication with others. ASD can range in severity, with affected individuals requiring little assistance to a significant amount for functioning.
Symptoms include:
- Social limitations
- Restrictive or repeating patterns in behavior
- Difficulty in academic settings and daily routines
A comprehensive assessment and resulting diagnostic report should include information regarding the severity of the symptoms, as well as the specifics describing how it has interfered with educational achievement. This assessment should have been completed within the past five (5) years and include the following components:
- Comprehensive History
- Comprehensive Battery of Cognitive and Achievement Tests with Adult Norms
- Clinical Observations
- Interpretive Summary
- Specific Diagnosis/Diagnoses* At least one specific diagnosis based on the latest edition of the DSM or the ICD must be stated, including the level of severity.
- Recommendations for Specific Accommodations
If possible, reports should include recommendations for accommodations. This information is confidential and will not be released to others without the student’s permission.
