Get Involved with the Farm

There are numerous ways to get involved with the Farm! Come by to volunteer, incorporate the Farm into your studies, apply for student employment, or help us thrive by donating.

Volunteer

Volunteer hours for Fall 2023 will begin September 8, and are Friday mornings 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Student Volunteers are welcome to join the Farm Crew during their work hours. Volunteers will find themselves doing a wide variety of activities. Some common activities include:

  • Weeding
  • Turning compost piles
  • Seeding and transplanting crops
  • Harvesting produce

If you have any questions you can contact the Farm Manager for more information.

Academics

The Farm has been used for a variety of academic purposes since its founding.

EA 85: Food, Land, and the Environment

This Environmental Analysis course, taught by Professor Marc Los Huertos, has been a spring mainstay at the Farm since its inception in 2006. Always popular with students from around the 5Cs, it combines a weekly lecture with hands-on activities at the Farm. Students tend plots of their own, learn about fruit tree pruning from local experts, visit other nearby farms, and work on their own independent projects.

Other Courses Taught at the Farm

In recent years, courses that have used the Farm include Human-Centered Design, Governing Climate Change (ID 001), Acting for TV and Film, Mathematical Modeling, and Soils and Society.

If you are interested in using the Farm for academic purposes, please contact the Farm Manager.

Student Employment

Students at The Claremont Colleges who are interested in working at the Farm should look to Handshake (at the beginning of the fall semester) or email the Farm Manager at farmmanager@pomona.edu to request more information.
