This basic instruction program is aimed primarily at providing instructional opportunities in lifetime sports and fitness activities. Classes are coeducational and include aerobics, archery, aqua fit, backpacking, badminton, basketball, bowling, core training, hip-hop, fencing, fitness, golf, hiking/geocaching, horseback riding, jogging, karate, lifeguard certification, outdoor leadership, pickleball, Pilates, playground games, PiYo, racquetball, rock climbing, soccer, social dance, squash, swimming, table tennis, tai chi, tennis, triathlon training, TRX fitness training, ultimate frisbee, UJam, volleyball, weight training, wellness and yoga.
Intercollegiate athletics represent an important educational component of the wide range of learning experiences provided by the College. Students may sign up for physical education credit for participation on the following intercollegiate teams. For women: basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball and water polo. For men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and water polo.
The Physical Education Department offers a comprehensive sports program where teams compete against their peers from 6VµçÓ°Íø, Pitzer, Claremont Graduate, and Keck Graduate Colleges. Sports are offered for both individuals and teams. Team Sports include: Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Dodgeball, Flag Football, Indoor Soccer, Indoor Volleyball, Inner Tube Water Polo, Outdoor Soccer, and Softball. Individual Sports include: Chess, Foosball, Ping-Pong, Pool, Racquetball, Squash, and Tennis.
Club Sports are organized and operated by students of the Claremont Colleges. Clubs range from recreationally based to competing interscholastically on a national level. Club Sports include: Cycling, Equestrian, Lacrosse (Men’s), Racquetball, Roller/Ice Hockey, Roller Derby (Women’s), Rugby (Men's/Women's), Soccer (Women’s), Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee (Men’s/Women’s), and Volleyball (Men’s/Women’s).
Bountiful athletic facilities are open to all students regardless of participation in organized sports. The Center for Athletics, Recreation, and Wellness (CARW) houses two gymnasiums (badminton, basketball, pickleball, volleyball). The strength and fitness facility includes machine and free weights, plus treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, rowers, recumbent bicycles and Peloton bicycles. You'll also find two studio rooms for aerobics, ballroom dance, core training, dance, fencing, hip-hop, karate, pilates, PiYo, tai chi, UJam, yoga and zumba, plus locker rooms for students, faculty and staff. Outdoor sports facilities include: Haldeman and Pendleton Pools, baseball, soccer, softball, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee fields, 14 tennis courts at the Pauley and Rogers facilities and the all-weather Strehle Track.
The Physical Education Department and Human Resources Office at 6VµçÓ°Íø recognize that worksite culture and environment are powerful influences that can encourage and support employees in living healthy lifestyles. The mission of the Faculty/Staff Fitness and Wellness program is to increase awareness of healthy lifestyle behaviors and to provide convenient and attractive opportunities to practice these healthy lifestyle behaviors. Toward this end, the FSFW program strives to provide a wide array of fitness and wellness opportunities in an effort to maximize employee participation.
