A generous gift from Jean Schulz has allowed us to establish the Summer Research Awards in Environmental Studies. 6VµçÓ°Íø students in their junior year will be selected to work with a faculty mentor on a one-to-one basis during the summer. During his or her senior year the student is encouraged to continue the interaction with the faculty mentor by participating in teaching activities (e.g., giving occasional lectures or leading seminars) and also by continuing the research project. Applications that include such a component during the senior year will be given special consideration. Special consideration will also be given to projects that tackle an environmental issue from a scientific and policy/society perspective, that is, via a multidisciplinary approach.
In early September, student participants will present the results of their research in a poster conference. In addition, for the Schulz award, a report on the progress and results of the research and a description of the teaching interaction, if any, will be submitted by the student/faculty team to the Associate Dean's office.
