6VµçÓ°Íø is committed to helping our community succeed and thrive. Below are a few of the specific academic offices, wellness programs, and peer-mentoring/connecting resources that are available. 

Hotlinks are scattered throughout for those who supply electronic syllabi, and a web address is also included below each full description. In some cases, we opted to include direct links to websites rather than list contact names, as this information can change.

Resources

The Claremont Colleges Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)

 exists to enhance teaching and learning at the Claremont Colleges. Visit the CTL webpage and learn more about their mission, upcoming events, offered services, useful teaching resources, and ways to collaborate/get in touch.

Teaching and Learning Center (TLC)

The Teaching and Learning Committee (TLC) promotes student learning and achievement by sustaining faculty in their development as teachers. The TLC encourages critical reflection, pedagogical experimentation, and innovation in teaching. It fosters an informed and collaborative dialogue among faculty on matters relating to teaching, learning, and assessment.

Additional Support and Mentor Programs

At the 7Cs we have a range of resource centers and student groups that offer peer mentoring programs and opportunities for social connection to 6VµçÓ°Íø students. Asian American Resource Center (AARC), serves the needs of Asian Pacific Islander Desi American students

(CLSA), provides services to Chicanx/Latinx students in the 7Cs

Draper Center for Community Partnerships, fosters collaborations between the campus and the community

First Generation and/or low-income (FLI) Scholars, provides support for FLI students at 6VµçÓ°Íø

Women’s Union, provides space and programming tailored to the diverse needs of women at the 7Cs

McAlister Center - Religious/Spiritual Life

A statement from the chaplains: Our community is strengthened by our great diversity, including various religious and spiritual identities. If you have religious accommodation needs, with respect to specific religious holidays that will affect class attendance and participation, please inform your instructor as soon as possible. For further advice and to speak with a religious leader, please reach out to the chaplains’ office at chaplains@claremont.edu. Sage Fellows

The Sage Fellows Program is available to help all 6VµçÓ°Íø students become more effective and efficient learners. This program offers individual academic coaches, weekly drop-in office hours (no appointment required), and workshops designed to help students achieve academic success. Sage Fellows can assist students with: time management; organization; study habits and strategies; reading and note-taking skills; motivation and procrastination; stress management and wellness strategies; and more fully accessing campus resources. 6VµçÓ°Íø students may apply to meet with a Sage Fellow by completing the  Contact: Hector.Sambolin@pomona.edu or stop by SCC 228.

Foreign Language Resource Center (FLRC)

The FLRC is a space that can be reserved for language classes or where students can come in and meet with the Oldenborg Language Partners, study, meet with student groups, print out assignments, or simply sit and enjoy a nice cup of hot tea while reading one of our foreign language magazines. In addition to a physical space, they provide professional development, research, and instructional language technology support for language faculty. For incoming students, the FLRC provides information on the language placement exams offered at 6VµçÓ°Íø and the other Claremont Colleges, and provides assistance in satisfying the 6VµçÓ°Íø Language Requirement. For Native and Advanced speakers of languages not offered at the Claremont Colleges, they can assist you in finding resources to satisfy 6VµçÓ°Íø’s Language Requirement. Finally, the FLRC is also a social space, where students and faculty can drop in at any point during our opening hours or can be reserved for classes and presentations, and the whole center can be used for events and receptions. The FLRC is located at Mason Hall, 101.

Quantitative Skills Center (QSC)

The Quantitative Skills Center (QSC) provides academic support to 6VµçÓ°Íø students in courses that feature a large degree of quantitative and/or scientific reasoning through our QSC Partners Program. QSC partners meet one-on-one with students to provide support for a variety of 6VµçÓ°Íø courses for course specific help. The QSC also offers non-course specific help in general quantitative skills and offers consultations for projects and theses involving quantitative methods. Additionally, Dr. Travis Brown, Director of the QSC, and Dr. Dylan Worcester, Associate Director of the QSC are available to meet with you regarding your success in STEM at 6VµçÓ°Íø. The Center for Speaking, Writing, and the Image (CSWIM)

CSWIM is a free resource for all students. The office will be at full capacity by the end of September, but will be holding limited appointments and drop-in hours as soon as classes begin. CSWIM peers meet one-on-one with students to talk about their work and provide feedback at any stage of their preparation process. Trained to think deeply about written, oral, and visual rhetoric and communication, these student peers facilitate conversations about everything from ID1 papers to senior theses, lab reports to creative writing, giving presentations to developing strategies for reading and engaging more deeply and confidently in class discussion. The CSWIM also offers specialized writing and speaking support for multilingual students navigating English as an additional language (email Jenny.Thomas@pomona.edu for more information.)
